On June 20, 2003, the story began very small and with a clear mission: a simple list of links called Webliste.ch was to bring order to the growing chaos of the Swiss internet. What was intended as a personal collection of useful addresses struck a chord. The list quickly grew into an industry directory for Switzerland, making companies visible and giving users orientation in the web jungle. Soon a job board supplemented the offering — directories became meeting places for talent and employers.
Behind the scenes, the team tirelessly tinkered with the technology to make work easier and automate information. The first step toward their own indexing was an experiment with a spider called Webofant. The idea of capturing content mechanically and making it searchable proved successful: in 2006 and 2007 Webliste.ch was voted among the top 200 websites — recognition for a project that had long been more than a simple list of links.
In April 2008 experiments became reality: WeboFant, Webliste.ch’s own search engine, went online. This gave the platform more pull and user-friendliness; in 2010 Wikipedia was integrated, enriching entries with background knowledge. In June 2012 a visible sign of success was reached — the 100,000th company was entered. A year later the search technology (WebFoant) was integrated even more closely into the platform, and in 2015 a responsive design made Webliste fit for the smartphone era.
2019 marked a bold change: the by-then established Webliste received a fresh, colourful design with images in the search results, and in April 2019 the name and brand transformation took place: from Webliste Schweiz to Tiger.ch, the search engine. The new brand stood for energy, clarity and growth. Shortly afterwards Tiger.ch expanded its offerings: in June 2019 a product search across numerous Swiss shops launched, in 2020 apps for Google and Apple followed, and in September 2020 Tiger.ch not only searched its own directory but began to include other search engines.
The platform stayed true to its innovation curve. In 2023 Tiger.ch celebrated two decades of continuity and change. At the beginning of 2024 security came to the fore: search-term encryption and link encryption were introduced step by step. Mid-2024 Tiger.ch opened access to artificial intelligence — several AI models were available to choose from, and users decided which, if any, to use. In September 2025 a further chapter followed with Tiger Weather: over 8,000 locations are supplied hourly with forecasts and real-time data — useful, local and global, always up to date.
What began as a simple list of links has become a living, versatile ecosystem: technically curious, user-oriented and always ready to reinvent itself.
And the journey continues...
